1974’s Black Christmas is considered to be one of the very first movies in the Slasher genre, and despite not the best reception on its release, is considered to have impacted John Carpenter’s Halloween and so still had a huge stake on the genre. 45 years later we are now getting a remake of the iconic festive themed murderfest just in time for the holidays. The series is going away from the classic conventions of the genre though and looks as if it’s trying to give our heroines more of a fighting chance than they had in the original. It will be interesting to see how well this all pays off, and in our time of constant remakes, if they can break the mould of underperforming compared to the classics.
