While Smashing Pumpkins semi-reunion tour in knocking on the door, Billy Corgan is still busy on the road performing his solo track “Archer” from Ogilala at James Corden’s “The Late Late Show” on Tuesday.
For the album Ogilala, produced by Rick Rubin, Corgan ditched his usual all-out guitar attack in favor of acoustic guitars and pianos, resulting in one of the most intimate records of his long career.
“I had no idea we’d do that,” said Corgan about the album in November “But I really grew to love it. Rick has a special, almost spectral-like quality of getting to the heart of a song in a way that’s really, really unique”.
As the ex-bandmate D’Arcy Wretzky is not involved with the reunion, Guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin have rejoined Corgan to work on new music.
Corgan claimed that he has spent two years repairing their relationship with Wretzky but added that he hasn’t “been in a room with her for 19 years”.
“I was attracted to playing acoustic music. So I wrote a batch of songs and I thought, Right. I need to find somebody to record these”, said the musician while describing the genesis of the album.
