Bill Callahan Shares Billie Eilish’s ‘Wish You Were Gay’ Cover

The folk-indie artist Bill Callahan has dropped a cover of Billie Eilish’s ‘Wish You Were Gay’ song on 29th October. Puza Snigdha reports.

Over the past month, Bill Callahan and Bonnie “Prince” Billy has started a series of covering songs and Eilish’s ‘Wish You Were Gay’ cover is the third song of the series. For the song Bill Callahan has collaborated with Sean O’Hagan of High Llamas and Stereolab.

The first song of the series was Yusuf/Cat Stevens’ “Blackness of the Night” in a collaboration with AZITA. After Bill Callahan and Bonnie “Prince” teamed up with Matt Sweeney to cover Hank Williams Jr.’s “O.D.’d in Denver”.

The song “Wish You Were Gay” belongs to the album “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” which was released in 2019. Callahan’s cover gives the initially stripped back and arousing melody a folky quality.

The surprise cover came after the release of ‘Gold Record’, Callahan’s seventh studio album under his own name, in September. ‘
