Several notable charities, including Friends of the Earth, Global Justice Now, Greenpeace, and Fossil Fuel London, are also participating in the event. With the Public Order Bill looming, this is a crucial time to advocate for the right to peaceful protest.

Who said what?

During a recent press conference, Marijn van de Geer, a representative from XR, expressed the organization’s renewed strength in their efforts to protect the environment. She noted the support of various groups including unions, NGOs, ethical companies, and environmental organizations. All coming together to call for political action to safeguard life on Earth.

Van de Geer highlighted The Big One event, which will span four days. And bring together over 200 groups with millions of members worldwide. The event will feature music, dance, and discussions on how to take more radical action if the government fails to engage with their demands. As she emphasized, time is running out for all living beings. And the attendees will deliberate on what comes next in the fight for the environment. None of them will remain silent while the clock ticks away.

What are Extinction Rebellion’s aims for The Big One?

The Big One is advocating for a society that is fair and puts an end to the fossil fuel era, with a citizen-led democracy. In order to achieve this, they are calling for reparations to be made.

These demands align with the core principles of XR, which include telling the truth, acting now, and deciding together.

Additionally, a demand for an immediate halt to all new fossil fuel licenses added in 2022 to emphasize the importance of taking tangible steps towards this goal.

How can people get involved?

Everyone is welcome to come together for the common goal of survival, as Extinction Rebellion reports that over 28,000 individuals have already accepted the invitation. The event will run from April 20 to 24, and volunteering or donating opportunities could found on XR’s website for any of those days.
