Bethlehem Baubles – Hand-blown in Hebron

Glass blowing is a centuries old tradition and a skill passed through families, generation after generation. Today in Hebron, glassblowers like Mohammed use traditional techniques to craft exquisitely unique decorations from recycled glass. Mohammed says,

‘Every bauble is different – like a snowflake.’

Snow is a rare phenomenon in Hebron, but this perfect analogy reminds us of the unique beauty of each Bethlehem Bauble.

Mohammed’s carefully crafted glass globes travel to Bethlehem where BFTA (Bethlehem Fair Trade Artisans) workers hand-paint them with delicate designs, thread them with ribbon and use fully-recyclable, plastic-free packaging to ship them to the UK.

Selim, one of around 40 artisans working at the Bethlehem Baubles Craft Village located in the very town of Jesus’ birth, has 4 children and has honed her painting skills over 20 years. She clearly enjoys her work, saying,

‘There are not many part-time jobs for mothers like me in Bethlehem and life has been very tough this last year. This income is very welcome and important to our family.’

Enjoy the glint of a gleaming glass bauble this Christmas, knowing it is a treasure that has transformed lives, from the heart of the Holy Land to the heart of your home.
