BBC releases 'Doctor Who' Season 11 Teaser Trailer

During the World Cup final between France and Croatia, the BBC debuted the first teaser trailer for Doctor Who Season 11. It is less than a minute long and introduces the Doctor’s three new companions: Graham (Bradley Walsh), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Yasmin (Mandip Gill Graham).
Ryan is in a cafe eating egg, beans and toast, watching football on his phone, with pundit Alan Shearer’s voice audible alongside eerie music. The next scene features Gill’s character who is having pizza in a living room with two other women. She opens an empty pizza box, closes it, sees a bookcase shake, and when she opens the box again it has been replenished with a full pizza. In this brief sequence, a figure appears to flash across the screen in a second.
Right after is Walsh’s character who is reading the newspaper in what appears to be a chip shop. He also witnesses things around him shake, and he gets a brief glimpse of a footstep, before looking back at his newspaper which has become the 1981 Beano Summer Special. White writing saying “The universe is calling” appears on a black background, before the clip cuts to a smiling Whittaker as the Doctor.
Jodie Whittaker, who starred in Broadchurch as Danny Latimer’s grieving mother, was announced as the 13th Doctor a year ago during the Wimbledon final. She has said she hopes young girls will be inspired by the BBC’s decision to cast a woman in the title role for the first time in the show’s 55- year existence.
Her casting came after years of discussion over whether or not a woman should take over for playing as the show’s most famous character. She will replace Peter Capaldi, who portrayed the Twelfth Doctor from 2014 to 2017.
The season 11 is expected to premiere in October 2018 in BBC.
