Barnardo's Adoption Support

Barnardo’s helps vulnerable children who can’t stay with their birth families by finding safe, loving permanent families for them. Their adoption service has over 100 years’ experience of helping children thrive in their new homes, so Barnardo’s prides itself on the exceptional support it provides to prospective adopters throughout their journey.
Many of the children in need of adoption have had a difficult start to life. With the help of loving families, they can be given the opportunities they deserve. Barnardo’s are looking for adopters for children of all ages (particularly those who are three or older), in sibling groups, with challenging behaviours, with physical and / or learning disabilities.
Whether you are single or married, male or female, a homeowner or renting, straight, lesbian, gay, trans or bisexual – believe you can adopt.
“Having read books about other gay people’s experiences in adoption, we were unsure as to how we would be viewed. However, from the first informal discussions to the support we receive now that our children are with us, our experience with Barnardo’s has been positive.” Sara and Lisa, Barnardo’s adopters.
The wellbeing of adoptive families is vital, so Barnardo’s offer a range of support during the application process and from the child’s first day in a new home. Their support includes:

  • therapy and counselling – individual and group sessions, helping children and adoptive parents to bond
  • on going training to improve and develop skills
  • social days out to connect with other adoptive families
  • support group where you can meet people with similar experiences.

Barnardo’s believe you can adopt, and so should you.
