You may find that during these times we find ourselves in, seeing the same people every day in the same place, paranoia can very easily seed. Audition was released 21 years ago in Japan and still captures and portrays this so eloquently. With a mix of shock horror and stomach turning visuals you’ll find yourself either completely disgusted or delightfully intrigued by what Audition can offer. After his mother passes away, film producer Shigehiko decides to help his father get back into the dating game, by arranging an audition for the “role” of his wife. After a young woman named Asami aces the audition, things start to slowly devolve from there. What I can promise is this is one of the darker films to come out of Japan that has a renowned place as a dark cult following for horror fans that is rightfully earned.
