Sir David Attenborough, Blue Planet narrator and longstanding broadcaster, has been named the UK’s favourite egghead. He beat presenter Stephen Fry and actress and activist Emma Watson for the top spot.
These are the results of a study commissioned by Greg Tatton-Brown from Play Absurd by online casino Casumo.com. When presenting the results Tatton-Brown said, “Celebrity culture isn’t always the place you look for a good dose of brainboxes.
“Sir David Attenborough has delighted our screens for decades, and has imparted his knowledge about biology, geography and the environment to millions of people around the world”.
Others included in the top twenty of the nation’s favourite eggheads are comedian Richard Ayoade, scientist Stephen Hawkings and computer extraordinaire Bill Gates.
Sherlock was picked by the nation as the smartest show on television, with American sitcom The Big Bang Theory close on its heals. University Challenge won over The Chase and Mastermind to be named the brainiest gameshow.
According to the survey conducted by OnePoll, the favourite pastime for Brits looking to put their brain in fifth gear is reading, followed by a challenging gameshow or a film that will get them thinking.
Results also showed that a small percentage of people, less than ten per cent, think that intelligence is one of the most important traits one of their friends can possess. But when it comes to traits in a romantic partner, 35% consider it a vital trait.
