Alexander O’Neal performed at the Town Hall in Birmingham last week and man, he put on a show!
The established star put on a real energetic show and remained pitch perfect throughout, proving his real professionalism and prowess.
Incredibly, Alexander managed to sing his classics and sound just as he did when he recorded them all those years ago. His talent shone through whilst performing his old tracks and new tunes.
Although his latest material has a much different sound, it worked with his voice, and made the concert more varied in its programme.
The crowd were on their feet all night – now that is the sign of a good concert! The room was buzzing – everyone was dancing and singing, making it a real party atmosphere.
The backing singers deserve a special mention because they were amazing – the song ‘Saturday Love’ stood out the most in that respect; we were truly in awe at that vocal performance.
The musicians were brilliant and the live music made for a really enjoyable experience. It was also very visual; there were fantastic screens in place that added to the overall effect of the show.
The support act Jay James also proved popular with the crowd; he came across as a lovely person and it was this that allowed him to really connect with the audience.
He was engaging and personable and it was hard not to be drawn to his amiable character. He was charming and charismatic and his set was thoroughly entertaining; at one point he even got the audience participating in the ‘2-step disco dance’!
Aside from his banter with those in the crowd, Jay also put on a cracking show, singing a mix of slow and upbeat tracks. He performed the ballads beautifully and maintained our attention for the duration of the set.
There was a meet & greet segment after the show and we were delighted to chat with the X Factor star whilst browsing the merchandise available. He was willing to chat and happy to assist, and he really took an interest in those who made the effort to speak with him.
We had a great time at the show and enjoyed both acts, as did the rest of those in attendance. This was evident when, at the end of the gig, everyone began chanting for more.
It’s safe to say that this evening was a real success. An evening packed with vocal talent, brilliant banter and dance moves for days!
