Adoption@Heart is marking Black History Month this year with an appeal for those from the BAME community to come forward if they would consider adoption.
Adoption@Heart is a Regional Adoption Agency (RAA) where adoption services from City of Wolverhampton Council, Dudley Council, Walsall Council and Sandwell Children’s Trust have come together to deliver adoption services across the region with a view to recruiting adopters, family finding for children and provide support to children and adopters.
It is designed to help speed up the adoption process, improve the life chances of those children waiting to be adopted, and improve adopter recruitment and support.
Adoption@Heart is currently working with over 50 BAME children in need of adoptive families – those from a BAME background often wait longer, alongside older children, sibling groups and those with disabilities.
Mark Tobin, Adoption@Heart service head, said: “We are appealing for adopters who can give our children lots of individual time, understanding and on-going support. We are looking to recruit adopters from within a diverse section of the community, irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, disability, race or faith.
“Whilst children from a BAME background often wait longer to be adopted, we often find that adopters will find a match with their child or children sooner.
“I would like to encourage anyone considering starting their adoption journey to give us a call or register for our next information event.”

Adoption is one of the biggest and most important decisions of your life and Adoption@Heart will support you as much as possible. It’s a life changing experience but one that is certainly rewarding.
Anyone can adopt, whether they are single, living together, married, a same sex couple, in employment or not working, or already have children or not.
Potential adopters must legally be a UK resident and have been so for at least 12 months, as well as being aged 21 or over.
They should have a spare bedroom and be able to provide a stable home for a child until adulthood and beyond.
Information events are held every two weeks across the region and are the perfect opportunity for prospective adopters to find out more and have your questions answered.
