Activists raise funds to help migrants arriving at Dover

On Wednesday, six small boats arrived at the Dover Port carrying 71 refugees from France. As of now, there has been a record of 4375 migrants entering the UK through the English Channel this year. Anika Khan reports.

Activists and Non-profit organizations have come forward to raise funds to buy ships and increase human rights patrols around the coast in the UK. The government has failed to control the migrant crossing. Every day, more boats carrying migrants are arriving at the Dover port.

The Joint Council for the Welfare for Immigrants (JCWI) have expressed their concerns about the risks that these migrants are putting in to seek sanctuary. The 33km of the dangerous journey across the busiest Channel has led to many fatalities in the past.

Channel Rescue is an activist group working to raise money for these refugees. They have established a GoFundMe page to buy life-jackets, food, fresh drinking water, and medicines. The money collected also funds for the legal and digital infrastructure costs involved for the migrants to settle down. They are also working to put patrol along the coasts to monitor human-rights abuses by the government and right-wing Media.

So if you are appalled by the government’s response in handling this situation, come forward to contribute and help these people. They too deserve a second chance and a place to call home.
