60 countries pledge to reduce pollution and protect wildlife

60 countries including, France, Germany, and the UK have pledged to halt all activities which are destroying our planet. Right ahead of the UN summit, the world leaders have promised to clamp down pollution and accept sustainable ways of running their countries.

The pledge came after the UN announced that the world has failed to meet any target to slow down pollution consecutively for the second decade. This included protecting the coral reefs, reducing deforestation, preserving habitats, and reducing plastic and other wastes that have been damaging the ecosystems.

We are at an emergency Climate crisis. Many World leaders including Jacinda Arden, Justin Trudeau, Angela Merkel have signed the leader’s Pledge for Nature’ on Monday. Bangladesh, Bhutan, Costa Rica, Kenya, Colombia, Seychelles, Mexico, and Fiji are the name of some other signatories to be part of the pledge. They have committed to restoring climate and protecting the wildlife a heart of their post-pandemic recovery plans some of which are as follows:

Completely eradicate the discarding of waste in the oceans by 2025.

Reduce deforestation for expansion and oil drilling projects.

Halt unsustainable fishing practices

Eliminate subsidies that harms the environment

Transit to sustainable food production

Build a circular economy by 2030

Eliminate Plastic

End environmental crimes and track illicit trafficking of wildlife and timber

However, all these words need to be turned into action to build momentum. The pledge needs to be a turning point or the world leaders to prove their competence in building a better world.

The world is waiting for other countries like US, Brazil and China to sign the pledge.
