344 abducted Nigerian School boys rescued

344 schoolboys who were allegedly abducted by the Islamist militant group has been rescued. Anika Khan reports.

On Thursday, a group of schoolboys was on their way back to Katsina in Northern Nigeria, when they were abducted by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

344 boys out of the group have been handed over to the security agents. The government is working in getting them medically examined before handing them over to their families.

The government is yet to reveal all the details on this incident. It is still not confirmed whether the security agents have managed to rescue all the boys.

On Friday a Government Science Secondary School in Kankara was attacked by a group of armed men.

Hundreds of students managed to escape the attack, however some were abducted.

The government authorities are working to engage private security firms to safeguard local schools.

People have taken over the streets, demanding the safe return of the school boys.

This abduction has gripped the entire nation and evoked the memory of Boko Haram who kidnapped 270 schoolgirls back in 2014.
