Julia Stone Announces New Charity Album “Songs for Australia”

Australian singer-songwriter Julia Stone has announced a new album “Songs for Australia” which will cover Australian songs covered by artists from around the world, to contribute funds to bushfire relief.

The album will include Kurt Vile, Damien Rice, Martha Wainwright, Dermot Kennedy and more. American band “The National”, have contributed a deal with of INXS’ legendary song ‘Never Tear Us Apart’.

Midnight Oil, Gang of Youths and Gotye have also covered some songs.
The project led by Julia Stone and she was recording in London over the New Year’s period. Stone ended up the entire project by asking artists she had a close connection with to contribute.

Stone’s mother used to live in Lake Conjola but she was forced to evacuate the place following the bushfire. This made stone very sad.

Stone showed producer Thomas Bartlett her favorite Australian songs which ultimately saw her recording a cover of Midnight Oil’s Beds Are Burning.

“I couldn’t believe the responses I was getting,” said Stone.

“I received the most heart-warming replies from the biggest, busiest artists in the world. Most of these artists have toured here, have family here, friends here, have lived here or spent time here.”

The album will be available in digital formats from March 5 and the CD is set to release in June.
