WhatsOn's MAKUP Academy Competition Day Huge Success

2 lucky ladies got to enjoy an enlightening make-up experience on Saturday 10 March when they spent a full day with professional make-up artist Veronica McAleer.
Holly and Sam were selected at random after winning a competition they entered courtesy of WhatsOn and the MAKUP Academy and, as a result, learnt the tricks of the trade in a low-key session hosted by the award-winning make-up artist Veronica, who specialises in creating looks for TV, Film and Theatre.
The day was kick-started with an introduction to the Academy and a tutorial on special effects. Holly and Sam’s guests were made up with bruises and bloody marks, and the wounds looked incredibly realistic – the models got a fair few concerned looks during lunch when they were out and about in the local area showcasing their new faces!
After refreshments the girls wiped away their freshly acquired battle scars and sat down in the studio to watch Veronica create a glamorous make-up style on a participant. When the demo was complete the models took their seats and the competition winners were encouraged to use the information they had gleaned to transform natural canvases into dolled up muses.
Sam gave her friend a warm glowing complexion and a sleek straightened ‘do, whilst Holly glammed up her mother with a striking red lip and sophisticated hairstyle. Veronica guided the girls throughout the process, prompting them to use the best techniques and colours for each individual look.
The day ended with a Q&A segment where Veronica gave us real insight into her background and the beauty business. There were plenty of photo opportunities and snapchat story moments that we really took full advantage of!
Overall it was a truly inspiring day and Veronica’s laid back yet confident teaching tactics really drew in the audience. It was engaging and interesting and the experience enabled us all to learn a few handy make-up tips.
If you are interested in learning more about media make-up and special effects then Veronica is definitely the woman to turn to. To find out about her Academy and her credentials then check out her website.
