Sea Shepherd is an international direct-action ocean conservation movement with the largest fleet of marine conservation vessels in the world. From the gentle giants of the sea to its smallest creatures, Sea Shepherd’s mission since 1977 has been defending whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, turtles, fish, krill and seabirds from poaching, unsustainable fishing, habitat destruction, and capture for the captive animal entertainment industry.
Sea Shepherd UK is a registered charity engaging in education, investigation of wildlife crimes and enforcement of conservation laws here in the UK while also supporting the main Sea Shepherd fleet on direct action campaigns around the world.
Sea Shepherd’s new ‘UK Ghostnet Campaign’ involves patrol boats and technical divers retrieving lost and discarded fishing gear responsible for indiscriminately killing marine wildlife for decades around the UK’s coastline.
The charity’s ‘Marine Debris Campaign’ sees volunteers cleaning beaches of plastics and other debris which threatens both sea life and seabirds. Sea Shepherd UK also manages covert teams in the Faroe Islands as part of ‘Operation Bloody Fjords’ to expose the mass killing of Pilot Whales and Dolphins in cruel hunts called the ‘Grindadrap’.
