2017 Was One of the Hottest Year on Record

2017 has become one of the hottest days on record, even though there was no El Niño cycle to further boost temperatures. Results released yesterday, show that the average temperature last year was 1C over pre-industrial times. Data was collected from land masses and oceans all over the world.
Climate change is believed to be the root cause of this rise in temperatures. The persistent burning of fossil-fuels by humankind is having an very negative effect on the environment. The state of global climate will keep deteriorating unless consuming attitudes are changed.
During 2017 there was an abundance of extreme weather events: hurricanes, heat waves and floods. It is believed that rising temperatures have a hand in causing these events that in some cases cause immense material losses and leave many of the most vulnerable people without a home.
The situation is not improving. The 1C over pre-industrial times recorded last years makes experts sceptical as to whether the international community will be able to reach the target on ensuring the temperature doesn’t rise further than 1,5C over pre-industrial times as set by the Paris climate agreement.
During the last three years the world has experiences record temperatures. Further proof that the situation is not improving is the fact that all the hottest years recorded since 1850 with the exception of one have all been in the new millennium.
