10 Steps: To Save Our Planet

Recently we’ve seen an increasing number of demonstrations by climate protesters.

Here is how you can also do your bit to help protect our planet.

1 Speak Up
Using your voice is one of the most powerful things you can do, especially if it’s to the right people. Talk to your MP. Tell them to commit to action to protect our natural world. Use social media to make your voice heard.

2 Stay Informed
Keep up-to-date with all the recent news on the state of our planet. Thanks to the internet we have the whole world at our fingertips, so use this to learn from influential people and to research organisations that are working hard to make our planet a better place.

3 Vote
If you are old enough to vote, then vote for someone who is representative of you and your views, and will make the environment a top priority.

4 Travel Responsibly
Whenever you can, choose a more sustainable way to get from A to B, such as walking or cycling. Think about your carbon footprint – can you take a train instead of flying to your holiday destination? Get creative and try to find alternative ways to travel.

5 Go Vegetarian or Vegan
Producing meat creates vastly more carbon dioxide than plants. The popularity and thus availability of vegetarian and vegan foods is on the rise, and cutting down on meat and dairy can also reduce your weekly food bills.

6 Reduce your Food Waste
It’s estimated that a third of all food produced in the world is lost or wasted. Try to waste as little as possible, and compost the organic waste you can’t eat.

7 Recycle and Upcycle
Every product we buy has an environmental footprint and could end up in landfill. Recycling reduces the amount of new materials being made, and upcycling is a creative way to re-use old items.

8 Buy Eco-Friendly Products
By using your purchasing power to buy eco-friendly products which are less damaging to the environment, you’re encouraging companies to source and produce their products in a sustainable way.

9 Donate
Donate to those charities and organisations which are working hard to protect the planet – there is no shortage of these and they will appreciate your support.

10 Volunteer
Volunteering with an environmental charity is a great way to help, and you will also benefit from being outside enjoying the natural world. Whether your passion is preserving the flora and fauna in your local area or helping to protect ecosystems overseas, there are countless opportunities.
